I think we're arguing about semantics. To be clear, this is what I believe

1. Teachers, nurses and doctors should have their pay linked in inflation.
2. Police and other front line emergencies should too.
3. Admin and support staff should be under the cap.
4. Anyone on 80k or more should be under the csp
5. Anyone on 100k or more should have a 5% cut.
6. The government should merge departments and hand over the management of the foreign aid budget to people who know what they're doing which will reduce government costs, freeing up money to give the people mmentioned in points1 and 2 some help after their sacrifices for 5years.

The country is spending too much money.. Every day we run a deficit means more borrowing which means more debt interest going to the greedy bankers we all hate.

It's a question of priorities.

The public sector had far too much cash wasted on it from 97 to 2010 and now we've had a few leaner years. It's a simple fact that every member of the public sector costs more than they contribute and therefore they have to be paid for.

An independent body which won't go above 1 percent unless the government say it can

It's an independent pay body.

My own view is paying front line police rises linked in inflation is doable.

We've got to cut costs elsewhere though as we've still got a deficit.

A8, thoughts on the police pay which is due to be announced this month. Same as the teachers?

If so, that would be a very bad news story for the government, given the events of the last few months.

Several government departments can go.

For a start the international aid department can go. Give grants to non profits and charities who know what they're doing and get out of trying to do it ourselves. Have it back within the foreign office.

The department for international trades a fucking joke too. Put it in with the business department.

The environment and communities departments can be merged. In fact the communities department is on of the biggest rackets going.

Scotland wales and northern Ireland can all go into a devolution department too.

And abolish the Lord's too. Bunch of time wasters.

Comma when I was a local councillor, it was about10k a year and that's only a few years ago.

I agree that top level excs get paid too high. You watch though if you try and sack them or cut their wages. Your mates in the unions go bloody mad.

If the government's got any sense (which is questionable as we're currently run by fucking clowns) they will increase the wages of useful people like teachers and nurses and cut the salaries of anyone on 80k a year or more to pay for it and have some of the hangers on sacked.

Cholo

I think teachers should get more than 1%. I think it's reasonable with the debts we have to move them to a rise linked to inflation. Likewise nurses and front line emergency staff. I think the majority of voters while recognizing that we've still got a deficit think we now need to pay people usefully contributing a bit more.

But. The hangers on in education and the nhs shouldn't get one and as for local government, my god, the inefficiencies and waste ia still too high. So many lazy moaning money grabbing bastards.

Re: teachers to only get 1% pay rise
Every so often the A8 mask of pleasant Tory slips and out come the remarks like he makes about such as local government workers. Back in time local councillors all had full time jobs but now for most of them their full time job is being a councillor and they are fully funded but us ratepayers. They are a cost on us as much as full time employees of a borough are. Then again there is the scandal of exorbitant remuneration for local borough heads. They too are a burden us ratepayers never used to shoulder. It's all very well A8 talking about the workers sucking on the ratepayers funded tit but there are fewer and fewer council "workers" year by year. Boroughs are doing their utmost with the funding constraints put upon them by central government but we can see thatis not going to improve with an A8 government in power. No money for the workers but plenty to fund the councillors, mostly drones, and the already fat wallets of the executives.

I'm a primary teacher, but have always worked in independent schools. Half the class sizes, pay rises not linked to public sector, and 8 weeks summer holiday instead of 6. Doesn't make any sense to me to move into state.

Re: teachers to only get 1% pay rise
Some utter bollocks on this thread and some home truths. (As always)

Teachers work fucking hard (I'm aware other jobs require hard work too, but this far harder than my old office based career). Yes I'd like a pay rise but I didn't go into this job to make millions. I just don't want the piss taken. Be nice after 7 odd years if my wages merely kept up with inflation

I agree that some teachers are cunty when it comes to preaching their views. It's banned in my school but it's obvious some still do it. Loads had the I'm voting corbyn facebook profile images and kids can and do easily find this stuff online.

Some of my sixth formers got a bit arsey when I refused to give any indication as to who I was voting for. I don't think teachers being in an influential role should project their views on others. Let them work it out for themselves.

New staff do get a rise in first 6 or so years as long as theyv pass their performance targets and climb the main pay scale.

The worst thing aside from the sheer hours isn't the marking (boring) planning (boring and I rarely bother as I know my syllabus) but the pressure for results (which depends on the kids working for themselves, something we have little control on). It's 3 fold. From parents, the govt and the head/governers. No matter how well I teach there's not much I can do about some little spoilt runt refusing to work, especially out of school.

But fuck it. I love the job (most of the time), I'm considered very good at it ( I get results usually, the kids enjoy my lessons and my lessons are always graded outstanding) and most importantly ......my school breaks up for 7 weeks tomorrow so I'm in a good mood.

The public sector had 13 years of pay rises and pension pots that the rest of us can only dream about. Their pensions are guaranteed in law.

It was tradition that if you worked in the public sector that you were paid less but had better working conditions, benefits and terms and conditions.

For every dedicated teacher or nurse there is a greedy and lazy council worker sucking off the states tit doing fuck all.

It's high time these lazy and greedy bastards were dealt with but of course we darent see unemployment rise as we'll never hear the end of it

So there they are. Sat festering doing fuck all apart from move some bits of paper about and act self righteous and sanctimonious.

If I were PM I'd cut their wages or make them do some real work being useful like a teacher or nurse are.
